Homeland Movement on a Mission: Serbian Aggressor Monuments Must Go!
In Croatia, a storm is brewing over monuments that, believe it or not, glorify Serbian aggression! Damir Markus, acting president of the Homeland Movement branch in the Sisak-Moslavina County, has called on citizens to report any controversial monuments that in any way glorify the aggressive JNA forces and Serbian aggression against Croatia.
The Hunt for Monuments
After the Homeland Movement filed a complaint in late June in Vukovar-Srijem County to remove a chapel erected in honor of Serbian aggressors, now the focus has shifted to Sisak-Moslavina County. Markus claims that about ten such monuments have been found in the area and urges citizens to provide exact locations so they can all be removed.
Why Does This Matter?
The new cemetery law clearly prohibits glorifying aggressors, and these monuments, depicting JNA soldiers, do exactly that — glorify aggression against Croatia. Markus and the Homeland Movement do not want messages glorifying the enemy to be sent from places of final rest, contradicting the struggle of Croatian defenders.
Reactions and Expectations
Markus expects county authorities to remove the controversial monuments within the legal deadline. Homeland Movement leader Ivan Penava has stated that removing such monuments is something the Croatian people have long awaited.
What Do Citizens Say?
Citizens are encouraged to participate in this action and report any monument they find inappropriate. Will Croatia finally rid itself of these monuments that remind of a dark chapter in its history?
Conclusion
This fight is not just political but moral. While some want to silence or even glorify the past, others fight to keep the truth alive and honor the victims. The Homeland Movement is determined — monuments glorifying aggression must disappear.
What about you? Do you think removing these monuments is the right move or an overreaction? Drop your thoughts and let the people’s voice be heard!
