Borussia Dortmund has finally secured their spot in the quarterfinals of the Club World Cup! In a thrilling match, Dortmund defeated Monterrey 2-1, setting up a blockbuster clash against Real Madrid in the next knockout round.
Both goals came in the first half, with Serhou Guirassy starring by scoring twice (14th and 24th minutes). Monterrey pulled one back in the 48th minute through German Berterame, but it wasn’t enough. Despite Monterrey holding 59% possession in the second half, Dortmund managed to hold on and book their place in the quarterfinals.
Guirassy was named man of the match, scoring two goals and narrowly missing out on a hat-trick. Now, all eyes are on the upcoming showdown with Real Madrid. Will Dortmund pull off a giant-killing act, or will Real prove why they are favorites?
