Dragica Jorgović Takes Helm of State Aid Control Commission: New Era or Just Another Empty Oath?

On July 17th in Belgrade, Dragica Jorgović solemnly took the oath as the newly appointed Chairwoman of the State Aid Control Commission. The Speaker of the National Assembly, Ana Brnabić, congratulated her and wished success in her work, while Jorgović promised to perform her duties independently, impartially, and honorably, respecting the Constitution and laws of the Republic of Serbia. Jorgović was elected to this position on June 16th, and her oath signifies the seriousness and responsibility she is undertaking. However, in the world of politics and state aid, where interests are often tangled, the question remains whether this oath is just a formality or the beginning of real change. Ana Brnabić emphasized the importance of institutional independence and commitment to reforms, which are key factors for transparency and fairness in state aid control. This event is significant because the Commission plays a crucial role in overseeing state subsidies and aid, directly impacting Serbia’s economic policy and development. In light of current political and economic challenges, the question arises how much the new chairwoman will manage to keep her promises and contribute to better control of state funds. Is this truly the start of a new era in state aid control or just another empty oath? Readers, what do you think? Do you believe in the independence and effectiveness of this commission?
