Drama Over Supreme Court President Election: Milanović Stands Firm, Opposition and HDZ Clash

Supreme Court Showdown: Milanović Stands Firm, Opposition and HDZ Clash!

Tomorrow is the big day for Sandra Artuković Kunšt’s nomination as the President of the Supreme Court, proposed by President Zoran Milanović. But guess what? The opposition and HDZ are united in saying she has no chance! Milanović, however, is not backing down and insists on his pick, ignoring criticism from Prime Minister Plenković and the opposition.

Consensus? Yeah, right!

The opposition calls for a deal between the president and the prime minister, but HDZ openly admits they want their majority in the Supreme Court and no compromises. Artuković Kunšt is accused of downplaying the rule of law and being linked to the banking lobby, which the opposition finds unacceptable. Božo Petrov even claims the Supreme Court sides with the party when it suits them, not with the people.

Milanović Unimpressed

The President dismisses Plenković’s arguments, saying the nominee hasn’t impressed anyone but is an experienced judge and will be re-nominated. He even joked he could mock the arguments against her for half an hour. Milanović accuses the prime minister of obstruction and calls for an agreement on ambassadors but makes it clear he won’t give up on his candidate.

Why Does This Matter?

The election of the Supreme Court president is not just a formality — it’s a battle for the judiciary that will decide key issues in the country. If this political fight continues, justice will become even more politicized, and public trust in the courts will erode further.

Bottom Line: The Drama Continues!

Tomorrow’s vote will show how much the relationship between the president and prime minister has really improved. Will they reach an agreement or will the conflict deepen? One thing is certain — the judiciary in Croatia is at the heart of political games, and citizens can only watch and wonder who really benefits.

So, what do you think? Who’s to blame for this mess? Is it time for the judiciary to finally be independent, or will politics keep running the courts? Drop a comment and let’s see where everyone stands!
