Drought in Serbia: Rivers on the Brink of Collapse, Water Becomes a Luxury!

Imagine Serbia where rivers are drying up, and water becomes a luxury not everyone can afford! The hydrological situation in the country is alarming, and experts are sounding the alarm. While the Danube, Sava, and Tisa show slight increases due to rainfall in the Alps, small rivers like Kolubara, Jadar, and the upper courses of the Morava and Toplica are on the brink of disaster. The drought has lasted for months, and high temperatures and lack of rain are making things worse.

Experts warn this is our new normal. We can no longer count on stable water reserves. Strong autumn rains are needed to soak the soil and fill the reservoirs, but even that is not guaranteed. Water restrictions threaten many parts of Serbia, and the situation is only getting worse.

Water levels on the Danube, Sava, and Tisa are slightly above low navigable levels, but that doesn’t mean all is well. Small rivers are in critical condition, and their drought threatens not only nature but also agriculture and everyday life.

Will we let water become a luxury? Or will we finally realize the seriousness of the problem and start protecting our rivers and sources? Share your thoughts—maybe your idea is the drop that will overflow the cup and spark change!
