Long-Term Unemployment of Women Over 50 in Serbia: Who’s to Blame and What’s Being Done?
Did you know there’s a serious problem in Serbia with women over 50 struggling to find jobs? Spoiler alert: it’s not just their fault – the government and the job market are in deep trouble! That’s why a new project is underway to figure out why these women stay unemployed for months, even years.
What’s Going On?
Under the project “Identifying Causes of Long-Term Unemployment of Older Women in Serbia and North Macedonia,” a survey is being conducted. The goal? To find out why women over 50 can’t get jobs and how to help them get back into the workforce. The project is funded by the Visegrad Fund and focuses on Belgrade.
Why Does It Matter?
Long-term unemployment isn’t just a number – it’s a huge problem for society and the economy. Women who are out of work for a long time lose confidence, social security, and the chance to contribute. Meanwhile, the job market loses experienced workers.
How Will the Survey Help?
The survey is available on the National Employment Service website and collects statistical data. Based on the results, concrete recommendations can be made to improve support measures for women’s employment. Maybe policies will change, maybe new programs will start – but without data, there’s no solution.
What Do the Numbers Say?
Exact figures haven’t been published, but it’s clear the number of long-term unemployed women over 50 is worrying. This project is the first step to understanding the problem and breaking the vicious cycle.
Who’s to Blame?
Is it the employer who refuses to hire older women? The system that fails to provide adequate support? Or social prejudices and stereotypes? Probably all of the above. But one thing’s certain – if nothing changes, things will only get worse.
What Do You Think?
Do you know someone who’s been out of work for a long time? Do you think the government is doing enough to help older women? Or is this just another survey that will end up forgotten? Drop a comment, share your thoughts – maybe your story will spark real change!
This project is a chance to finally shine a light on problems many ignore. Long-term unemployment of women over 50 isn’t just statistics – it’s lives, futures, and the fate of our country. Let’s not forget them!
