An earthquake measuring 3.8 on the Richter scale struck the Marmara Sea near the coast of Silivri today, about 36 kilometers south of Silivri and 47 kilometers southwest of the Buyukcekmece district on the western outskirts of Istanbul. The epicenter was at a depth of 12 kilometers, according to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC). So far, there is no information about any casualties or material damage. At the same time, a similar earthquake measuring 3.7 hit southern Hungary, with the epicenter near Subotica, about 50 kilometers from a Serbian city. There is also no confirmed information about damage or injuries there. These quakes remind us how unpredictable our planet is and how important it is to be prepared for natural disasters.
