Ecological Disaster on the Ćehotina River: Who Will Pay the Price of Pollution?

EXCLUSIVE: Ecological Disaster on the Ćehotina River! The Šuplja Stijena mine and Gradir Montenegro company are at the center of a scandal due to land collapse and toxic water discharge. The water inspector has finally submitted documentation to the Basic State Prosecutor’s Office in Pljevlja, and the test results are devastating – concentrations of pollutants have exceeded allowed limits multiple times, especially at the Tatarovina site. Will anyone finally be held accountable for this ecological crime, or will the Ćehotina River continue to suffer?

The incident was discovered on June 23 when a fishery guard from the Lipljen Pljevlja Sports Fishing Club reported pollution. The inspector reacted immediately and conducted several inspections from June 24 to 30 at critical locations – the Šuplja Stijena mine, Jelica, Tatarovina, and the mouth of the Badanj spring. The pollution is visible to the naked eye – the water is murky, and the color changes downstream from the Badanj source.

The Water Management Authority has notified other relevant institutions, including the Health Sanitary Inspection Directorate and the Inspection Secretariat of the Pljevlja municipality. However, the question remains – how long will justice be delayed? The lead and zinc mine Šuplja Stijena, owned by Gradir Montenegro, is clearly not ready to take responsibility for the disaster it caused.

This ecological incident is not just a local problem – it is a warning to all of us. Who will pay the price of pollution? Will the authorities stop such ecological catastrophes, or will we continue to watch nature suffer due to irresponsibility and greed?
