Elections in Kosjerić and Zaječar: Disputes Over Results and Reactions of Government and Opposition

Local elections in the municipalities of Kosjerić and Zaječar were held with high voter turnout and tensions. According to preliminary results from the Republic Electoral Commission, the list “Ne damo Srbiju” led by Aleksandar Vučić won the most votes in both municipalities. However, the opposition disputes the results citing alleged irregularities, including a large number of invalid ballots and suspicious activities at polling stations. The CRTE observer mission recorded numerous incidents and irregularities on election day. Both the government and opposition declared victory, leading to protests and legal requests to annul elections in certain locations. There was also a reported physical attack on a journalist, condemned by media and authorities. The election process was described as tense and controversial, with differing interpretations of results and reactions from political actors.

Political Perspectives:

Left: Left-leaning sources emphasize the alleged irregularities and electoral fraud claims by the opposition, highlighting the high number of invalid ballots and incidents reported by observer missions. They focus on the need for transparency and fair elections, criticizing the ruling party’s dominance and the tense atmosphere surrounding the elections.

Center: Centrist sources report the election results as preliminary and note the disputes between government and opposition without taking a strong stance. They emphasize the high voter turnout and the official data from the Republic Electoral Commission, while also acknowledging the protests and legal challenges. The coverage is balanced, presenting statements from both sides.

Right: Right-leaning sources highlight the victory of the ruling party list “Ne damo Srbiju” and praise the stability and development policies of the government. They acknowledge the opposition’s claims but often frame them as attempts to undermine legitimate election results. The narrative stresses the importance of law and order, condemns attacks on journalists, and supports the official election process.
