Erdogan and NATO: Is Raising Defense Spending to 5% of GDP Salvation or Madness?

Erdogan just threw down the gauntlet to NATO allies: forget the old 2%, now it’s 5% of GDP for defense! Some countries already spend over 2%, but Erdogan says just throwing more money at it won’t make NATO more effective. Meanwhile, the US is pushing this idea hard, and Spain is whining like NATO is their personal enemy. And get this — out of that 5%, only 3.5% goes directly to the military, the rest is for civilian infrastructure because apparently roads and power grids are now part of military strategy. Is this a bold move or just another NATO circus? Come on, drop your hot takes — is 5% of GDP on defense too much, too little, or just plain stupid?
