The EU has finally figured out how to break Viktor Orban, the biggest opponent of sanctions against Russia! The Hungarian Prime Minister has been the stumbling block in the EU’s unified decision-making, but Brussels has a cunning plan that will leave him speechless. Instead of requiring unanimity in the common foreign policy, which Orban cleverly blocked, the European Commission now proposes to impose sanctions through trade policy. This means that the ban on importing Russian gas can be adopted by a qualified majority — at least 55% of member states representing 65% of the EU population, not unanimously! Orban’s veto will no longer have any effect.
Just imagine — Hungary, which so far enjoyed the privilege of blocking sanctions, will now be pressured to comply with the majority. The EU is ready to bypass traditional rules and show it is willing to do anything to counter Russian influence. And is Orban really the only one who dared to say “no”? Slovakia is also a disruptive factor, but the EU has a plan for them too.
This is not just a political game — it’s a war for energy and power. Hungary and other countries relying on Russian gas will now have to face the reality that Brussels will not allow individual leaders to hold them hostage.
As the EU prepares for this battle, Defense Commissioner Andrius Kubilius warns that Europe will need millions of drones and must start building a real army. Is this the beginning of a new era of European independence or just another step towards centralizing power in Brussels?
Don’t be surprised if soon EU political games turn into a real drama with many unexpected twists. What do you think — is Orban a hero fighting for his country or just a stubborn autocrat blocking Europe? Drop a comment, let your voice be heard in this crazy story!
