Europe is in chaos, and the EU is pretending everything is fine! EU Commissioner for Enlargement, Marija Koseva, boldly states: “Europe cannot be united without the Western Balkans!” Is anyone in Brussels listening? Or are they just sitting back while a historic chance to unite Europe through enlargement slowly slips away?
Imagine, for the first time in history, there is a clear consensus that enlargement must be seized. But will it really happen? Koseva points out visible progress – Albania has opened three negotiation clusters in the last six months, Montenegro has closed another chapter, and Bosnia and Herzegovina has adopted a reform agenda. Kosovo and Serbia, despite their issues, are also moving forward. But is that enough?
Koseva warns that reforms are not easy. They cut into entrenched power structures and interests. Real leaders are needed to lead this deep social transformation. Without them, it’s all in vain.
North Macedonia’s Prime Minister, Hristijan Mickoski, adds that the Western Balkans are a vital part of Europe and their future is inseparable from the European one. He emphasizes that the region’s strength lies in unity, stability, and strengthening relations with the EU, opening new markets and jobs, removing trade barriers, and increasing investments.
The EU-Western Balkans summit includes the prime ministers of Montenegro, Albania, Kosovo, as well as EU representatives and international institutions. Everyone agrees that the Western Balkans are key to Europe’s future, but the question remains – will the EU finally stop wasting time and seize this opportunity?
If you thought the EU was just another bureaucratic machine, think again. This time, history is on the table. But will the leaders have the courage to write it? Or will we watch yet another chance pass us by?
Jump into the conversation – do you think the EU really wants the Western Balkans, or is this just another empty story? Who’s to blame for the stalemate? Write, laugh, rage – but don’t stay silent!
