Eurozone Unemployment Rate Slightly Rises in May: Is This the Start of a New Crisis?

In May, the unemployment rate in the Eurozone slightly increased from 6.2% to 6.3%, while the overall European Union rate remained stable at 5.9%. There are 13 million unemployed people in the EU, with 10.8 million of them in the Eurozone. Compared to April, the number of unemployed in the Eurozone rose by 54,000, and by 48,000 across the EU. On a yearly basis, unemployment in the Eurozone decreased by 3.6%, but in the EU it increased by 0.3%. Particularly worrying is the rise in youth unemployment (under 25 years), which reached 14.8% in the Eurozone and 14.4% in the EU. The unemployment rate among women in the Eurozone stands at 6.5%, while for men it slightly increased from 6.0% to 6.1%. These figures, released by Eurostat, cast a shadow over economic prospects and raise the question: is a new economic crisis looming? Will Europe manage to tackle these challenges, or are we in for an even tougher fight for jobs? Got thoughts? Share them — maybe your joke or critique about unemployment will break the ice!
