Meteorological Madness in Serbia: Drought, Wind, Showers, and Fires!
Welcome to Serbia 2024, where Mother Nature is not holding back! While most hope for some relief, the Republic Hydrometeorological Institute of Serbia (RHMZ) warns us of a real weather rollercoaster. Today, expect windy and cooler weather, but don’t be fooled — temperatures are still hovering just below 30°C, and northwesterly winds bring stormy gusts, especially in the east.
Showers and Thunderstorms? Yes, but only in some areas! In hilly and mountainous regions, showers with thunderstorms are possible, while most of Serbia will see partly cloudy skies with sunny intervals. But don’t forget — the UV index remains very high, meaning the sun is dangerous for your skin. Skin cancer is no joke, and RHMZ reminds us that protection is not optional, it’s a must.
Drought that won’t quit — soil cracking, crops in peril! While we battle wind and showers, the real drama is underground. Hydrological warnings remain in effect — the Danube, Sava, and Tisa rivers near Belgrade and Titel have water levels below low navigable marks.
Tributaries of Kolubara, Jadar, and Morava rivers are on the edge, with flows at only 95% of average.
Extreme drought has gripped much of Serbia, and forecasts predict even less rainfall ahead. This means the soil will stay dry, and crops in sensitive growth phases could be seriously threatened. Farmers, brace yourselves for a tough fight for every yield!
Fires threaten to engulf everything in their path! To make matters worse, the Rakovica municipal inspection is ramping up controls due to increased fire risk. Summer heat and drought are a perfect recipe for fiery disaster. Burning grass, brush, and trash is strictly forbidden, but human negligence continues to cause problems.
Aleksandar Bučevac from the Emergency Situations Sector warns that fires spread quickly, especially if the wind picks up. This morning’s rain may have calmed things a bit, but it’s nowhere near enough to eliminate the danger.
What’s coming in the next days? RHMZ announces yellow and orange weather alarms in many parts of Serbia, with dangerous weather phenomena that can cause material damage and threaten people and animals. Be ready for wind, showers, thunderstorms, and high temperatures that will further dry out the soil.
Bottom line: Serbia, hang in there! This combo of drought, wind, high temperatures, and fire risk is no joke. Maximum caution and responsibility from all of us are needed. Follow weather forecasts, don’t light fires outdoors, and take care of yourself and your surroundings.
