Families Are Not Targets: Macura on Political Violence and the Limits of Decency

POLITICAL WAR AND LINES THAT MUST NOT BE CROSSED!

Has politics become a battlefield for the dirtiest hits? Tatjana Macura, responsible for gender equality and preventing violence against women, made it crystal clear today: families of politicians are NOT and must NOT be targets in political fights!

While blockaders gather in front of former Prime Minister Miloš Vučević’s and Novi Sad Mayor Žarko Mićin’s homes, Macura doesn’t hold back. “The right to protest cannot be a cover for threats and intimidation of politicians’ family members,” she said.

The discomfort and worry about children of state officials becoming hostages of political dissatisfaction is not just her personal concern — it’s a wake-up call for society. Political pressure at someone’s doorstep, in front of children, is not bravery, it’s cowardice.

Macura warns that no political goal justifies breaking the basic values of a decent society. “If we don’t protect families, we don’t protect democracy — we open the door to chaos,” she declared.

The line between free speech and aggression is clear, and once crossed, we all lose.

In a world where political battles are fought on streets and in front of homes, the question is — where does it end? Has dignity and privacy become a luxury?

If you’ve got something to say about this, maybe it’s time to join the conversation. Who knows, your joke or comment might just help redraw that line!
