Conductor Daniel Barenboim has revealed that he is suffering from Parkinson’s disease. Despite his deteriorating health, he continues to conduct occasionally, emphasizing the importance of the “West-Eastern Divan” orchestra, which he founded with Edward Said to promote coexistence among Middle Eastern peoples. Barenboim, known as a critic of Israeli policy and a supporter of the two-state solution, plans to retain as many professional commitments as possible, focusing on the long-term stability of the orchestra.
