17 students died in a fire at a school in Nigeria.

In a fire in the northern Nigerian state of Zamfara, at least 17 students from an Islamic school in the city of Kauran Namoda have died, while 12 students have been hospitalized with severe burns. The students were between the ages of seven and 17. Police spokesperson Jazid Abubakar stated that an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the fire. Husaini Adamu, who lost two children, said that the fire started in a nearby house and spread to the school.
