As Serbia and the region face a wave of wildfires, firefighters tirelessly battle flames threatening to engulf forests, fields, and settlements. In Niš, Trupale, Podgorica, Grude, Vladimirci, and Trebinje, fires have erupted due to high temperatures, strong winds, and, worst of all, human negligence and deliberate arson. In Grude alone, a helicopter from the Armed Forces of BiH dropped a staggering 43 tons of water to prevent the fire from spreading near a solar power plant. In Podgorica, firefighters are fighting fires in inaccessible terrain, with the wind making their job even harder. Podgorica’s mayor, Saša Mujović, urges citizens to refrain from activities that could spark fires and to report any intentional arson. In Vladimirci, fires were caused by power line wire contacts due to strong winds, burning several hectares of wheat and agricultural buildings. In Trebinje, two fires were quickly brought under control thanks to rapid firefighter intervention. This situation is a wake-up call for all of us — nature is burning, and we must ask ourselves how ready we are to face the consequences of our carelessness and irresponsibility. Will we finally realize that the fire consuming our forests and fields is also a fire burning in our minds? Got a wild fire story or witnessed something unforgettable? Share it — maybe your story will spark awareness, not flames!
