Fires on Kosovo and Metohija: Serbian Returnee Homes Burned, Urgent Reconstruction or Total Collapse?

Hellish Fires Devour Serbian Returnee Homes in Kosovo and Metohija!

Does anyone even care about the Serbs returning to Kosovo and Metohija? Four returnee houses in the Istok municipality have burned down in massive fires sparked by scorching heat and strong winds. Yes, you read that right – four houses! Two in Osojane, two in Suvi Lukavac, and another one in the village of Blagača near Đurakovac. The fiery blaze spreads like wildfire, and local firefighters are fighting tooth and nail to save what they can.

Miljana Nikolić, the director of the Health Center in Kosovska Mitrovica, immediately went to the scene to assess the situation and assist the healthcare workers involved in managing the crisis. In cooperation with the Office for Kosovo and Metohija and the president of the temporary authority of the Vučitrn municipality, Milan Kostić, it was agreed to urgently restore the clinic in Gojbulja. Until then, patients will be served in a temporary facility to ensure no one is left without basic healthcare.

But let’s be real – this is just a drop in the ocean of problems faced by Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija. Houses are burning, people are left homeless, and institutions are scrambling to fix the damage, but is it enough? Children will stare at the ruins and wonder about their future. Will anyone tell them that schools might close and they might have to resort to something far from a normal life?

This isn’t just a story about fires. It’s a story about neglect, injustice, and how Serbian returnees in Kosovo and Metohija fight for every inch of their homes. As the fire spreads and the wind carries the ashes, the question remains – who will help them rebuild their lives? And how long will the state wait to act before everything turns to dust?
