Five Years Since the Novi Sad Tragedy: Heroes Who Gave Their Lives to Save Colleagues

Five years ago, a tragic fire broke out in a meat processing factory in Novi Sad, claiming the lives of two brave engineers, Vojislav Nedić (48) and Đorđe Bajić (62). On the morning of July 7th, the fire likely started due to contact between high-temperature oil and electrical installations. While everyone else evacuated, these two men were the first to react, alerting their colleagues and trying to save others. Tragically, they succumbed to thick smoke in the ground floor of the administrative building. Their deaths shook their families, friends, and the entire workforce. The families remain in deep mourning to this day. Đorđe Bajić’s wife shared how she sent him off to work that morning, only to receive the devastating news that evening. This tragedy is a stark reminder of the cost of bravery and the critical importance of workplace safety. Let their sacrifice not be forgotten, and their stories remind us that every worker matters and safety must be a priority. Got a story or thought?
