Folklorni Ansambl Sevdah from Vranje Celebrates 60 Years of Stage Magic!

Did you know that the folkloric ensemble Sevdah from Vranje is celebrating a whopping 60 years of existence this year? Yes, you read that right – six decades of pure magic, tradition, and virtuosity on stage! On Thursday, at Staniša Stošić Square in Vranje, a spectacular concert was held, gathering a large crowd of locals eager to enjoy the lavish dances and songs of this ensemble.

Sevdah is not just any folkloric ensemble. It’s an institution! Formed way back in 1963 and officially registered in 1965, this ensemble consists of three groups of members – from the youngest first graders, through the experienced first ensemble members, to recreational dancers aged between 30 and 50 – proving that folklore isn’t just for the older generations. In fact, the youngest members of FA Sevdah caused the biggest excitement among the audience, who greeted them with thunderous applause.

The ensemble’s repertoire isn’t limited to dances from the Vranje region alone but covers a much wider range of traditional dances and songs, earning them numerous awards and recognitions both in Serbia and abroad. This isn’t just folklore – it’s living history, art, and pride of a city and a whole country.

But let’s be honest – how often do we really stop to appreciate such gems of our culture? While the world turns to modern trends, FA Sevdah tirelessly preserves and passes on tradition, proving that folklore is not dead but more alive than ever.

If you missed the concert, don’t worry – the folkloric ensemble Sevdah from Vranje continues to amaze and inspire. And if you were there, you probably wondered how children with just a few years on stage can cause such euphoria among the audience. That’s the power of tradition, that’s the power of Sevdah!

So next time you pass through Vranje, pause for a moment and listen to the sounds woven into the soul of this city for centuries. And don’t be surprised if the rhythm grabs you and you want to dance too.

Now honestly – who can resist folklore when performed by such masters? If you have a funny or touching story related to folklore, or maybe you’re a member of some ensemble yourself, share it with us! Let the voice of tradition be heard, but also the voice of the audience, the living soul of every performance.

Folklore is not just the past – it’s the present and the future. And FA Sevdah from Vranje is proof that tradition can be fun and modern, and that it can unite generations. So let’s all support these cultural heroes and show that folklore has its place in all our hearts!
