France’s July 14th Celebration: Anthems, Reforms, and Fireworks

Every year on July 14th, France turns into a grand stage celebrating freedom, revolution, and national pride. But is it just fireworks and parades, or is there something much deeper behind the scenes? At the French Embassy in Belgrade, a reception was held to mark this national holiday, where Chargé d’Affaires Fati Aksal clearly stated that France supports Serbia’s European perspective. But this is not just a celebration — it’s a reminder of the crucial reforms Serbia must implement: economic development, rule of law, judicial independence, and media freedom.

In France, Bastille Day is marked by grand military parades, airplane flyovers, illuminated drones above the Eiffel Tower, and fireworks lighting up nearly every city. The President traditionally inspects the troops and lights the eternal flame, while across the country, firefighter balls and fairs take place. This day is not just a memory of the 1789 storming of the Bastille but a celebration of democratic freedoms and the revolutionary spirit that still inspires today.

But while France celebrates, Serbia faces challenges. The embassy clearly emphasizes that France’s support is conditional on implementing reforms essential for European integration. Will Serbia manage to handle this pressure and seize the opportunity, or will it remain trapped in its own problems?

As anthems are sung and choirs perform in Belgrade, eternal flames are lit and freedom is celebrated in France, reminding us that the real revolution is not just in fireworks but in the changes that transform society. So, what do you think — is Serbia ready for its own July 14th? Or will we just watch from the sidelines? Drop a comment and let’s see who’s here for the fireworks and who’s rooting for the real revolution!
