Alen accepted help and got a spot in transitional housing. Just a week after leaving the streets, he enrolled in university. He worked, studied, and invested in himself. He completed two master’s degrees and today, together with his brother, runs a café in Dublin that’s no ordinary spot — it’s a social hub for homeless and people in need.
Their café offers hot meals, a place to hang out, charity flea markets, music nights, and events aimed at helping people get back on their feet. The Dublin mayor officially recognized their work, and Alen proudly says Ireland gave him a chance he never had back home in Croatia.
Alen’s story is an inspiration and proof that even in the darkest moments, a new life can be born. “I can’t call homelessness bad — it was my path and my test,” he says.
