Garages Are Not Storage Rooms, and Fines Are No Joke!
Did you know your garage is not a place to store old furniture, grills, or even clothes? Sounds unbelievable, but in Germany and many other countries, there are strict rules that clearly state: garages are exclusively for motor vehicles and items related to them!
What is allowed and what is not?
Only items related to the car are allowed — tires, jacks, roof boxes, windshield washer fluids. Everything else, like old furniture, sports equipment, food, or garden tools, is strictly prohibited. Why? Because such items increase the risk of fire, attract pests, and interfere with the primary use of the garage.
Fines that hurt!
If you think this is just a formality, think again. Municipal inspectors can fine you up to 500 euros! Many citizens are unaware of these rules, and when inspections happen, the fines can be quite unpleasant.
Why do these rules exist?
The goal is to relieve streets and sidewalks from parked cars and preserve public space. Garages are meant to protect and store vehicles, not to be storage rooms for everything and anything.
What do you keep in your garage?
If you are one of those who use the garage as a storage room, maybe it’s time to rethink. You risk not only a fine but also the safety of your property and neighbors.
And yes, if you thought this was only a problem in Germany, think again — these rules are increasingly enforced here too. So, dear readers, check what you keep in your garage before municipal inspectors surprise you.
Now, take a look in your garage and tell us — what’s the weirdest thing you’ve found there? Maybe it’s time for a big clean-up! Or maybe you have a funny or scary garage story? Share in the comments so we can all laugh or warn each other!
Don’t let your garage become more expensive than your car — follow the rules and avoid painful fines!
