Gas Explosion at Rome Gas Station: 45 Injured, Chaos and Panic in the Capital

Hell on a Gas Station in Rome!

Rome woke up to a disaster this morning when a gas explosion at a gas station injured a staggering 45 people! Yes, you read that right – 45 injured, including 24 civilians, 12 police officers, 6 firefighters, and 3 emergency workers. Two people are in critical condition, hooked up to mechanical ventilation, and some have burns covering up to 55% of their bodies!

It all started with a small gas leak explosion, which firefighters and police rushed to handle. But instead of calming down, a massive second explosion hit like a bomb, sending the station’s roof flying a meter into the air and shattering glass and metal everywhere. Flames spread to nearby buildings, including a court storage facility.

Fire chief Enio Aquilio described the scene as a bomb blast, with the sound heard across much of Rome. Luckily, a nearby summer camp with 50 children was evacuated safely, but if the explosion had happened later, the disaster could have been far worse.

Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni is in constant contact with authorities, closely monitoring the injured, while Pope Leo XIV sent prayers for the victims. The nearby metro station is closed for safety reasons.

This tragedy casts a dark shadow over Rome’s safety and reminds us how dangerous handling gas can be. Will anyone finally take responsibility and prevent such disasters? Or will we keep watching lives being gambled with due to negligence and poor maintenance?
