Gideon Grajf and the Srebrenica Controversy: Is the Scientific Consensus Changing?

The global scientific community is allegedly shifting its stance on Srebrenica, claims Professor Dr. Gideon Grajf, historian and director of the Serbian-Israeli Cultural Center at the University of Belgrade. Grajf, a leading Holocaust research expert, chaired an independent commission investigating the suffering of all peoples in the Srebrenica region. His commission concluded that the killings in Srebrenica were war crimes, but not genocide.

“The scientific community is slowly changing its view on Srebrenica as genocide. I am very pleased with the success of my engagement in scientific research. Today, the scientific community looks differently at Srebrenica. Only amateurs will deny it, because this has been done very professionally,” Grajf told Srna.

This statement comes as July 11, the day of remembrance for the victims of Srebrenica, is commemorated across the region and the world. Grajf’s claim sparks a storm of reactions as it contradicts the widely accepted stance on the Srebrenica genocide, recognized by international courts and many countries.

This controversy raises questions about how historical events are interpreted and whether the scientific community can or should change its views on such sensitive topics. Is it possible that the scientific consensus shifts under pressure from new research or political influences? Or is this just another attempt at rewriting history?

In any case, Grajf’s statement sheds new light on one of the most painful topics in the recent history of the Balkans. What do you think? Is it time for reconsideration, or is this a dangerous game with the memory of the victims? Drop a comment and let your voice be heard in this fiery debate!
