The main culprits behind this catastrophe are drought, lack of pollen, diseases, parasites, poor winter preparation, and excessive use of chemical agents on fields. Beekeepers claim that illegal chemical products from the black market are often used, especially during flowering, which further kills bees. Dragan Mladenović from Vranje says that weather conditions and climate change have completely altered beekeeping conditions.
Fake Honey – Poison for the Market and Consumers
To make matters worse, the market is flooded with fake honey! Consumers can only be sure if they buy honey directly from beekeepers they personally know. This is a huge problem because fake honey not only deceives buyers but also destroys the reputation of genuine beekeepers.

Imagine, bees now have to be fed sugar syrup to survive! This is not normal for this time of year. However, veterinarian Danijel Marković warns that excessive sugar feeding can lead to diseases like nosemosis, so feeding is necessary but must be carefully controlled.

Ads for selling full and empty hives, honey extractors, and beekeeping equipment have never been more numerous, and beekeepers are losing patience. Boban Mišić from Jagodina, who has kept precise records for 30 years, says he has never experienced such losses. Their goal now is just to keep the bees alive.
