Hell on Earth: How the Heatwave is Killing Our Health and Mind

Hell has arrived, and we are melting! The heatwave sweeping across Serbia is not just scorching our skin but wrecking our bodies and minds. Temperatures are soaring up to 40 degrees Celsius, and experts warn this is no ordinary heat – it’s a physiological and psychological stress bomb that can cause heatstroke, strokes, and total nervous breakdowns.

Psychologist Snežana Repac reveals that high temperatures alter our brain chemistry. Cortisol, the stress hormone, skyrockets while serotonin and dopamine levels drop, making us irritable, nervous, and unable to focus. Sounds like a perfect recipe for chaos on the streets and in our heads!

But that’s not all. People working outdoors are at the highest risk. Heatstroke can strike suddenly – blood vessels dilate, blood pressure drops, the brain gets deprived of oxygen, leading to dizziness and fainting. If you think this is exaggerated, think again – doctors warn dehydration is the main culprit behind strokes during these hellish days.

Dr. Mark Babi from Cleveland Clinic explains that when temperatures exceed 30 degrees Celsius with high humidity, the body undergoes massive stress. Blood thickens, clots form, and the risk of ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes rises sharply. Elderly people and those with cardiovascular issues are on the edge, but even healthy individuals aren’t safe.

What to do? First, drink water like your life depends on it – because it does! Avoid alcohol and energy drinks that only make things worse. If you’re driving, take breaks, because driving in these conditions can be deadly. Be more tolerant of each other, as we’re all on the brink of a nervous breakdown.

And don’t forget – this isn’t just Serbia’s problem. Heatwaves are a global enemy forcing us to change habits, adapt, and survive. If you think this is just another summer heatwave, you’re wrong. This is a wake-up call.

So, what are you waiting for? Grab another glass of water, shake off the irritability, and share how you’re surviving this heat hell. Or are you already at your limit? Comments are open, and we can’t wait to hear your firsthand stories!
