Imagine this: Croatia is melting at +38 degrees Celsius, while at the same time thunderstorms are brewing that could knock you off your feet! The State Hydrometeorological Institute (DHMZ) has issued a red weather alert for the Karlovac, Zagreb, and Osijek regions — meaning the weather is dangerous for health and public safety. And to make matters worse, Zagreb is under a double warning — not only will it be scorching hot, but local heavy showers with thunder and winds exceeding 55 km/h are expected! While most of us are sweating and seeking relief by the sea or rivers, meteorologists warn that being outdoors during the hottest part of the day is especially dangerous for children, the elderly, and those with chronic illnesses. And what about those mocking the warnings? Just yesterday, severe weather in France claimed lives, yet here red alerts are still being ignored! In inland Croatia, after a warm night, daytime temperatures could reach up to 38 degrees, posing a huge risk of heat stress. Although showers and thunderstorms are expected in the afternoon, they will only bring short-term relief and may cause additional weather troubles. On the Adriatic coast, it will remain sunny and very hot, with temperatures between 31 and 35 degrees, but occasional maestral winds will bring some relief. The weekend will bring a brief break from the heatwave inland, but temperatures will rise again by Sunday. Are you ready for the strong bora wind expected on Saturday, sometimes reaching storm force, especially in the northern coastal areas? If not, better prepare yourself! All in all, it’s time to take these dangers seriously and stop pretending they don’t affect us. Got your own tricks to survive these hellish days, or think meteorologists are overhyping it?
