Hellish heat in Serbia isn’t just a reason to sweat – it’s a full-blown chaos for emergency services! In the last 24 hours alone, firefighters in the Kolubara district responded to a staggering 64 incidents, an 80% increase compared to the same period last year. Yes, you read that right – 64 fires in one day! Most of these blazes erupted in open areas, with stormy winds fanning the flames even more. In Valjevo, firefighters battled a fire covering three hectares of low vegetation near residential buildings, while in the village of Mionica, even an abandoned house was consumed by flames. Luckily, no one was injured, but the material damage is massive.
At the same time, in Belgrade and surrounding areas, emergency medical teams were overwhelmed with calls due to a sudden temperature drop of about 15 degrees Celsius, which hit chronic patients especially hard. In two traffic accidents, three people suffered minor injuries and were transported in stable condition. Night shifts for emergency services were packed with interventions – 19 just in one day.
Meteorologists warn of upcoming heat waves and possible supercell storms, making the situation even more complicated. While citizens struggle with extreme weather, authorities and firefighters urge everyone to be responsible – don’t light fires outdoors, be careful with flames, and help prevent disasters.
It’s clear Serbia is burning – literally and figuratively! Will anyone ask why the situation is so alarming? Are emergency services ready for these challenges, or will we keep watching fires and accidents pile up? Got a tip or survived this madness yourself? Drop a comment – maybe your story will help someone survive the next storm or blaze!
