Hellish Heat and Road Chaos in Montenegro: Why Drivers and Roadworks Are Driving You Crazy?

Welcome to Montenegro this summer, where the sun blazes like we’re in an oven, and the roads are a true adventure for the brave! With temperatures soaring up to 40 degrees Celsius, drivers face hellish conditions on the roads, and to make matters worse, roadworks and traffic closures are causing absolute chaos. The Montenegro Auto-Moto Association urges drivers to avoid traveling during the hottest parts of the day and to respect all bans and restrictions, but who’s really listening?

On regional road R10, between Đurđevića Tara and Mojkovac, at the Sokolovina spot, traffic is completely stopped due to landslides and critical point repairs. Imagine a total blockade for all types of vehicles! And that’s not all – on regional road R29, near Kamenički Bridge in Krute, traffic is closed during certain hours due to works. Main roads M2 and M3 are also suffering from works, with traffic alternating on a single lane, controlled by traffic lights.

While drivers struggle with these closures, on main road M6, between Pljevlja and Đurđevića Tara, traffic regime has changed from two-way to one-way, and similar situations exist on other critical sections. Bans on trucks over 7.5 tons on main and regional roads last from mid-June to mid-September, during peak traffic hours.

Has anyone thought about how tough this is for truck drivers who now have to find alternative routes or wait for hours in traffic jams? And what about tourists visiting Montenegro for the first time, unaware of these complications?

And let’s not forget the advice to adapt driving to weather conditions and take frequent breaks – sounds like textbook stuff, but in practice, who can do that when the traffic is heavy and the heat is like an oven?

All in all, Montenegro this summer is not just a paradise for tourists with beautiful beaches and nature, but a real test of patience for anyone daring to get behind the wheel. If you thought driving in the heat was easy, think again!

While the authorities strive to repair roads and improve infrastructure, the question remains how long this will last and how many more times we’ll be surprised by new closures and works. Maybe it’s time we all start planning trips in the early morning or late evening, or just stay home and enjoy the air conditioning.

And you, dear readers, how are you coping with this traffic madness? Got any stories about waiting in jams or hellish heat on the road? Drop a comment, maybe together we’ll find a way out of this chaos!
