The fire that broke out in a residential building in Voždovac, Belgrade, is not just an accident – it’s a drama that could have ended tragically, but one young man showed what true courage means. In the early morning hours, around 5 AM, flames erupted on the fourth floor of the building. Residents panicked as smoke filled the hallways, and one young man, L.D. (28), didn’t hesitate for a second – he jumped into the fire to save his father (65). Although he managed to help his father get out of the apartment, the young man suffered serious burns and was rushed to the Emergency Center. Fortunately, the older man was unharmed.
Firefighters arrived quickly and contained the blaze, but the cause is still unknown. Residents were evacuated, and police conducted an investigation. This tragedy reminds us how common fires are in Serbia – in just the last seven days, there have been 76 fires reported! Is this a sign that we need to take home safety more seriously?
The young man is a true hero of our time, but the question remains: how ready is our society to prevent such disasters before they happen?
