Honey counterfeiting in Serbia could soon be recognized as a criminal offense rather than just a misdemeanor, which would mean stricter penalties for offenders. The initiative was discussed at a meeting of the Serbian Beekeeping Organizations Association (SPOS) and the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management, aiming to combat the growing problem of counterfeit honey and massive bee deaths. Additional measures to improve beekeeping were proposed, including subsidies for beehives, stricter inspection controls, and a clearer legislative framework.
