Horror Film “God’s Dog” Wins Top Prize at Sloter Festival in Doljevac

Imagine this: the horror film “God’s Dog” didn’t just win the top prize at the Sloter Festival in Doljevac, it blew the jury away! This Latvian film by brothers Raitis and Lauris Abel is no ordinary horror flick – it’s an artistic bombshell blending mythology, folklore, psychology, and magic into one stunning package. Using rotoscope animation, the film gives characters an almost tangible realism, a rare feat in animated horror. The jury, made up of Jovan Ristić, Marko Pišev, and Árpád Slacik, unanimously declared “God’s Dog” an exceptional mix of archetypes, taboos, and fantastic elements that delve deep into the human psyche and the rural culture of Northern Europe in the late Middle Ages.

But wait, there’s more! The festival also awarded the “Little Mace” prize to the animated film “King of Nothing” directed by Aleksa Gajić, described as a highly stylized, uncompromising horror-cyberpunk portrayal of present-day Belgrade. Another film, “BVX29” by Goran Jovanović, received a special mention for its minimalist approach and tension that hooks viewers from the very start.

The Sloter Festival, held from July 4 to 6 in the former slaughterhouse space in Doljevac, gathered fans of artistic horror films and extreme music. The event was sponsored by the Municipality of Doljevac and the Ministry of Tourism and Youth of Serbia. This festival isn’t just a place to watch films – it’s a haven for those who love to dive into dark, mystical, and thrilling stories that push genre boundaries.

If you thought you’ve seen it all in horror, “God’s Dog” will prove you wrong. This film shows that animation can be just as scary and profound as any live-action movie. And if you’re a fan of horror with a dose of folklore and psychological depth, this is a real treat.
