Have you ever thought that a tiny mosquito coil could cause a full-blown disaster? Well, in Gornja Bistra near Zagreb, that nightmare came true! Yesterday morning at exactly 5:20 AM, a house owned by a 57-year-old man caught fire. The culprit? A burning mosquito coil that fell and ignited a wooden post. From there, the fire spread to the furniture, which was completely destroyed, as well as to the stairwell wall and part of the roof. Firefighters quickly responded and extinguished the blaze, but the damage was massive. A 43-year-old family member suffered minor injuries and was treated at the Clinical Hospital Sveti Duh.
This incident shines a harsh light on the dangers posed by seemingly harmless items like mosquito coils. How many times have you used one without a second thought? Did you ever consider the risk? This isn’t the only fire in the region recently, but it’s definitely one of the most bizarre causes. While fighting mosquitoes, are we playing with fire?
Firefighters are the heroes who prevented an even bigger catastrophe, but the question remains — how careful are we when using these products? Is it time for stricter regulations and warnings? Or will we keep risking our homes just to keep mosquitoes away?
