Imagine this – the NATO planes that mercilessly bombed Yugoslavia in 1999 could have been stopped! Yes, you read that right! Former Russian Prime Minister Sergei Stepashin shocked the public by revealing that Russian S-300 surface-to-air missile systems could have protected Yugoslavia from NATO aggression. Stepashin, who led the Russian cabinet in May 1999, at the height of NATO bombing, openly admitted that Russia had the capability to deliver the S-300 systems but did not do so. Had these systems been delivered, NATO planes wouldn’t have even flown over Belgrade!
At the time when NATO bombs were falling on bridges, peaceful cities, the TV tower, and even the Chinese embassy, Stepashin was negotiating with US President Clinton. Despite tough negotiations, he claims Russia stood by the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia and defended it as much as it could. Even his predecessor, Yevgeny Primakov, refused to fly to America after the bombing started, a clear sign of disagreement with NATO’s actions.
But the real drama lies in internal betrayals. Stepashin pointed out that FRY President Slobodan Milošević was ultimately betrayed by his own people, including those who handed him over to the Hague Tribunal, where Milošević unexpectedly died, despite being in perfect health.
This statement sheds new light on the events of 1999 and raises many questions: Why didn’t Russia deliver the S-300? Could it really have stopped NATO? And who betrayed Milošević?
If you thought history was clear, think again. This shocking statement from the former Russian Prime Minister casts a shadow over the entire narrative of NATO bombing and reveals just how dirty the political games were.
So, what do you think? Would the S-300 have really stopped NATO? Or is this just another political fairy tale? Drop a comment and let your voice be heard in this fiery debate!
