In Serbia, there has been an increase in zoonoses, diseases transmitted from animals to humans, over the past three years. In 2023, the number of cases rose by 72% compared to 2022, with seven fatalities. The highest incidence rate is in the Moravica and Kolubara districts, while the most cases have been reported in the Nišava district and Belgrade. Zoonoses are on the rise globally, accounting for 60.3% of new infectious diseases worldwide. Dr. Slavica Maris, an epidemiologist, discusses this issue.
