International Student Forum: Freedom and Sovereignty of Nations in the 21st Century or Just Another Political Show?

Here we go again! Palace of Serbia, June 26th, and the international student forum titled “Freedom and Sovereignty of Nations in the 21st Century.” Is this a golden chance to connect young people from 55 countries or just another political show? Srđan Graovac, manager of the “Svetozar Miletić” Foundation, claims it’s an “exceptional opportunity” to build a network of friendships and deepen cooperation among youth sharing similar values. Of course, Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić was there to add some political sparkle — because what’s better than a politician on stage to legitimize an event?

The forum gathered students from 55 countries, which sounds impressive, but is it more than just empty words? The theme is “freedom and sovereignty of nations in the 21st century” — sounds powerful, but how much can we really expect? Vučić took the chance to say there are people you can’t scare or blackmail — maybe the only honest thing at this gathering.

Is this forum just another way to gather young people for some nice media photos while the real issues of sovereignty and freedom get swept under the rug? Or is this really the start of something bigger? If you thought this was just another boring event, think again — the political scene in Serbia and the region is always ready for a spectacle, and students are now in the spotlight.
