Internet Shopping Boom in Serbia: 40% Growth in Q1 2025!

Ready for some jaw-dropping numbers? Serbia has experienced a full-blown online shopping revolution in the first three months of 2025! The National Bank of Serbia announced that the number of internet payments made by cards and electronic money surged by a staggering 40.1% compared to the same period last year. That’s a whopping 23.6 million online purchases!

Domestic vs. Foreign Online Stores Out of the total, 16.5 million purchases were made on domestic websites, while 7.1 million went to foreign online stores. The Serbian dinar, euro, and US dollar together make up 98.2% of all payments, almost unchanged from last year.

Dinar Dominates, Euro Soars, Dollar Drops Purchases made in the domestic currency, the dinar, rose by 43.4%, from 11.5 to 16.5 million transactions, with their value jumping 52.2%, from 31.9 to 48.5 billion dinars. Euro payments increased by 65%, from 3.1 to 5 million, with their value up 54.4%. Meanwhile, US dollar transactions fell by 17.9%, from 2 million to 1.7 million, but their value rose by 21.8%.

Domestic Online Stores on the Rise By the end of March 2025, the number of domestic online stores grew by 21.1% compared to the end of Q1 2024, signaling a booming e-commerce market in Serbia.
