The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) have announced that they currently control about 65% of the Gaza Strip. Yes, you read that right — nearly two-thirds! But let’s not kid ourselves, this “control” comes at a price no one wants to admit. Since the war began on October 7, the Israeli Air Force has struck seven alleged militant targets, including weapons depots, tunnels, and rocket launchers. But while the IDF celebrates its “successes,” Palestinian civilians are paying the price — in May alone, dozens were killed trying to get aid from distribution centers. In October, Israeli strikes killed 57 people in the enclave.
On the battlefield, the situation is bloody for Israeli soldiers too. Recently, 19-year-old Sergeant Asaf Zamir was killed in fighting in the southern Gaza area of Khan Yunis, while two soldiers were seriously wounded. During the attack on Khan Yunis, an Israeli tank was hit, showing that the army is not immune to losses.
This campaign, according to Israeli forces, aims to protect Israeli civilians, but the question is at what cost? Is it worth holding control over territory if it comes with massive losses on both sides? And while the world watches, blood is spilled and no solutions are in sight.
If you think this is just another conflict news story, think again. This situation is far from simple, and the consequences will be felt for years. So, what do you think about this “control” and its price? Drop a comment, maybe together we’ll figure it out!
