In a serious traffic accident that occurred on Thursday around 8 PM on state road D75 between Umag and Sveta Marija on the Karst, a motorcyclist died and his passenger was seriously injured. The accident happened near the turnoff to the village of Galiće when a 32-year-old driver of a car with Pula registration started turning left, at which moment he was hit from behind by a motorcycle with Slovenian registration plates. The motorcycle was driven by a 32-year-old Slovenian citizen, accompanied by a 29-year-old Kosovo citizen. Due to the force of the impact, the motorcyclist and passenger fell onto the road. Despite resuscitation attempts, the motorcyclist died at the scene, while the seriously injured passenger was transported to a hospital in Slovenia. The police, in cooperation with the county state prosecutor’s office, continue to investigate the circumstances of the accident. During the investigation, the section of road D75 near the Galiće intersection was closed to traffic, and vehicles were diverted via detours.
