Croatia Handball Captain Ivan Martinović Finally Ties the Knot – And What a Wedding!
Think athletes live only for the game? Think again! Ivan Martinović, captain of the Croatian handball team, married his longtime partner Miriam Rath, an Austrian from Graz, last year. But this wasn’t just any wedding – it was a church ceremony in the charming Austrian town of Bad Vöslau, south of Vienna, complete with a party that would make even the biggest party animals jealous!

Martinović shared tons of photos on Instagram from the wedding, where his teammates from the national team – Domagoj Duvnjak, Igor Karačić, Domagoj Srna, and others – were guests, dancing and singing the popular song “Ne zovi mama doktora” (Don’t Call Mom Doctor). The tamburitza band Merak played live, the atmosphere was electric, and everyone had the honor of seeing their captain sail into married life.
Miriam – The Rock and Support
Miriam Rath isn’t just a wife; she’s Ivan’s biggest supporter. Though she once played volleyball, an injury forced her to quit sports, but that didn’t stop her from fiercely cheering Ivan on at every training and match. The couple has been together for years, got engaged at the end of 2021, and married in mid-2022.
A Career Fueled by Love
Ivan started his handball career at the Austrian club Fivers Margareten in Vienna, then played for German clubs TSV Hannover-Burgdorf and VfL Gummersbach, and currently plays for Rhein-Neckar Löwen in Germany. He debuted for the Croatian senior national team in 2019 after playing for youth teams. In February this year, coach Dagur Sigurdsson confirmed Ivan would take over the captain’s armband from Domagoj Duvnjak.
