Last month was the hottest January ever, scientists say.

Last month was the warmest January in history, according to data from the European Climate Change Service Copernicus. The average temperature was 13.23°C, which is 0.79 degrees above the January average for 1991-2020. Despite expectations that La Niña would slow down warming, the record was broken by 0.1 degree. El Niño and La Niña are climate phenomena in the Pacific Ocean that affect global weather conditions. January 2025 was marked by record temperatures, including in Belgrade where the maximum was measured.
