Public Call for Nature Protection Working Group: Can Civil Society Save Serbia?
Serbia has finally opened the door for civil society to get involved in something that should matter to all of us – protecting nature! Until July 14, there is a public call for nominating candidates for a working group that will draft the nature protection law. Yes, you read that right – civil organizations focused on environmental protection, nature conservation, and biodiversity preservation can apply and be part of this process.
What’s going on?
The Ministry of Human and Minority Rights, Social Dialogue, and Cooperation with Civil Society issued this call on July 1. Organizations registered in Serbia and active in environmental protection have the opportunity to submit their applications exclusively via email to javni.pozivljmpdd.gov.rs. The application must clearly state that it is a candidacy for membership in the working group drafting the nature protection law.
Why does it matter?
The nature protection law is crucial for Serbia because it concerns preserving our planet, biodiversity, and natural resources. Many laws in the past have remained just on paper while nature suffered. Now there is a chance for civil society, often the voice of reason and expertise, to participate in creating a law that will truly protect nature.
Will anything change?
This is an opportunity to move things off the deadlock. But will the authorities really listen to civil society, or will it all remain a formality? Time will tell. The call is open until July 14, meaning activists and organizations need to step up and show they care.
What do you think?
Will this call be just another formality, or will civil society really manage to influence a law that will save nature in Serbia? If you have an opinion, share it – maybe your idea will be part of the solution!
Get involved, comment, and remember – nature doesn’t wait!
