Judiciary in Chaos: Judges and Prosecutors at War with Themselves and the Law!

Judiciary in Serbia is on the brink of chaos! The Association of Judges and Prosecutors of Serbia (UST) has today publicly condemned the shameful act of some of their colleagues who anonymously, without signatures and without any legal basis, demanded the dismissal of the Chief Public Prosecutor of the Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office in Belgrade, Nenad Stefanović. This informal group called “Defend the Profession” is not a professional association, nor a judicial or prosecutorial council, nor a legally established group of citizens. Their demands are ridiculous and do not represent the opinion of the majority of the judiciary.

About 200 judges and prosecutors signed this unsigned statement, which is a negligible number compared to approximately 2,000 judges and prosecutors in Serbia. UST accuses them of political engagement, which is prohibited by law, and warns that such behavior calls into question the impartiality and fairness of the judiciary. The question is, who actually benefits from this “civil disobedience” and whether the goal is to undermine judicial bodies and block the functioning of the judiciary.

The situation causes deep concern among conscientious holders of judicial functions, who have been appealing for half a year for colleagues to refrain from political expressions in order to maintain impartiality. However, some have decided to ignore the law and legal ethics, calling for the dismissal of the legitimately elected Chief Public Prosecutor.

Is this the beginning of judicial chaos in Serbia? Will the state allow the legal system to collapse due to personal and political interests? If you have an opinion on this judicial mess, drop a comment below. Let the voice of the people be heard, because justice must be a reality for all of us!
