The morning rush hour in Belgrade finally brought relief to drivers – traffic jams on the bridges have vanished, and traffic is flowing normally. The Ministry of Internal Affairs (MUP) removed all blockades across Belgrade and Serbia overnight, detaining several individuals, with criminal charges filed against two of them. Four misdemeanor charges were also filed. However, the police urge citizens to refrain from illegal traffic blockades that could endanger the safety of all road users.
This chaos lasted for days, with blockades turning the streets into a nightmare, especially during the morning rush when everyone is rushing to work. Although all roads are now passable, the question remains how long this peace will last and whether such scenes will repeat. The police showed determination, but the problem runs deeper – citizen dissatisfaction and social tensions spilling onto the streets.
Despite the removal of blockades, the threat of new incidents still looms over Belgrade. The MUP clearly states it will respond to any illegal activity, but responsibility also lies with citizens not to endanger themselves or others. This situation is just the tip of the iceberg of problems facing Serbia’s capital.
Will Belgrade finally get peaceful streets, or will we see chaos and blockades again? Only time will tell, but one thing is clear – drivers and citizens have already suffered too much.
