Cardiovascular diseases are the number one killer in Serbia, yet many of us wait until something hurts to take action! In Bogatić, an educational event was held as part of the “Health Caravan” project, clearly showing how crucial prevention is. Health advisor Nebojša Tasić urges: “Don’t wait for symptoms! Many people have high blood pressure or blood sugar without knowing it!” Preventive check-ups are available to everyone over 18, aiming to identify risks early and prevent or successfully treat the disease.
Snežana Plavšanić from the Batut Institute emphasizes that the key is a balanced lifestyle: proper nutrition, quitting smoking, and at least two hours of moderate physical activity per week. “This can reduce the risk and complications of existing cardiovascular problems,” she says.
Mirjana Davidović, director of the Bogatić Health Center, adds that vascular health is crucial: “Regulate your blood pressure, get ECGs, and regular blood fat tests!”
The “Health Caravan” has visited 40 municipalities in seven months, but the problem remains that people don’t realize how important it is to change their mindset about health and get regular check-ups. If we don’t start caring for ourselves while young, it might be too late!
So, if you thought you’re super healthy because you feel fine, think again! Maybe your blood pressure or sugar is telling a different story. How about you? When was your last preventive check-up? Or are you waiting for your heart to fail? Share your experiences or excuses — maybe together we can change this grim statistic!
