KK Split Bids Farewell to Veljko Mršić After First Trophy in 21 Years

KK Split and Veljko Mršić: The End of an Era, but Also the Celebration of the First Trophy in 21 Years!

Did you know that KK Split, the Croatian vice-champion and current winner of the Krešimir Ćosić Cup, has just parted ways with the coach who brought them their first trophy after an incredible 21 years of waiting? Yes, you read that right! Veljko Mršić, who joined at the beginning of the year, led the team to the finals of the Favbet Premier League, where they lost to Zadar 3-1 in the series, but in mid-February brought the biggest club success in the last two decades – winning the Krešimir Ćosić Cup.

This trophy is the first for Split since the 2003/04 season, which is a huge achievement for a club that has long been in the shadows. Although they finished 13th in the ABA League with only 9 wins and 21 losses, this Cup success was a bright spot in the season.

In his farewell message, Veljko Mršić expressed how much he enjoyed every day working with the players, coaching staff, club, journalists, and fans. “I am proud that after 21 years we brought a trophy to the showcase. A big thank you to everyone for the support!” – said Mršić.

The departure of the coach who ended the long trophy drought in Split raises many questions about the club’s future. Will the new coach be able to continue this success, or will Split return to the trophyless grayness? Fans are divided, and the atmosphere in the club is tense.

This event is a real shock for basketball lovers in Croatia and the region. KK Split has proven that persistence and the right leadership can break even the longest streak of failures. But why then part ways with the coach who brought so much joy? Is it a sign of problems in management or something else?

In any case, KK Split and Veljko Mršić will be remembered as those who ended the 21-year drought and brought hope back to the club. Now it’s up to the new coach to continue where Mršić left off.

So, what do you think about this move? Did KK Split make a mistake letting Mršić go? Or is it time for a fresh start? Drop a comment, let the fans’ voice be heard!
