Another Disaster in Pristina: Constituent Session of Temporary Pristina Institutions Suspended for the 46th Time!
Does anyone in Pristina even know what they’re doing? Or is this just a never-ending circus with no end in sight? The constituent session of the Assembly of the temporary Pristina institutions was suspended today for the 46th time! Yes, you read that right – 46 times! Still no agreement on electing the Assembly president, and the proposal by Self-Determination for a secret ballot was rejected again.
Drama Without End
There were 93 MPs present, and the formation of a secret ballot commission was supported by 49, but that wasn’t enough. The Self-Determination candidate, Aljbuljen Hadžiu, failed to get the required 61 votes despite six attempts. How many more tries will it take to end this agony?
The Democratic League of Kosovo, Democratic Party of Kosovo, Alliance for the Future of Kosovo, and Serbian List did not propose members for the secret ballot commission, further complicating the situation.
Constitutional Court and Meaningless Deadlines
The Constitutional Court of Kosovo ruled on June 26 that MPs must conclude the constituent session within 30 days. But as we see, deadlines are just dead letters on paper. The president of the temporary Pristina institutions, Vjosa Osmani, tried to talk to party leaders but to no avail.
Elections were held on February 9, and no party has enough mandates to form a government alone. Self-Determination has 48 mandates, Democratic Party of Kosovo 24, Democratic League of Kosovo 20, Alliance for the Future of Kosovo 8, Serbian List 9, and the rest belong to other minority communities.
What’s Going On?
Clearly, the political deadlock has lasted for months, and citizens of Kosovo and the region are left staring into the void. Is this an endless political game or a complete institutional collapse?
The session chairman, Avni Dehari, scheduled the continuation for July 15 at 11 a.m., but does anyone believe anything will change?
Conclusion
This endless saga of constituting the Assembly of the temporary Pristina institutions has become a subject of mockery and frustration. Political elites clearly cannot agree on even the most basic issues, and deadlines and court rulings seem to exist only to be ignored.
If you have a better idea on how to fix this mess or just want to share how much this situation annoys you, drop a comment. Maybe together we can find a way out of this political swamp!
