Looks like the Kosovo Assembly has no clue what ‘progress’ means! At the 50th continuation of the constitutive session, MPs failed to elect the parliament speaker. Yes, you read that right – the 50th session and still no election! Only 53 MPs voted for the commission to conduct the secret ballot, but that wasn’t enough. The presiding officer, Avni Dehari, asked opposition parties to propose candidates for the commission, but the atmosphere was so tense that Dehari even cut off the parliament service’s microphone, forbidding any discussion! MPs from the Democratic League of Kosovo (DSK), Serbian List, Alliance for the Future of Kosovo coalition, ABK, Social Democratic Initiative, and NISMA did not participate in proposing or voting. Is this political blockade or total chaos? The session continuation is scheduled for July 23, but who knows what awaits there. Clearly, Kosovo’s politicians have a serious problem agreeing and running the parliament. Think this is just another boring political story? Think again! This is a never-ending political merry-go-round. What do you think – will Kosovo ever have a functional parliament? Or will we watch another 50 sessions with zero results? Drop a comment and let’s see who’s the optimist and who’s the realist!
